Individual Therapy
You deserve therapy that is designed specifically for you and your needs. Just as no two people are alike, neither are two therapy experiences are alike. At Markle Professional Counseling, you will benefit from the flexible, creative and insightful conceptualization skills that inform your personal therapy experience. This process is collaborative and your active participation ensures that your needs are getting met.
Individual therapy begins with an initial assessment or "intake" and is followed by regular appointments until you have accomplished your goals. Most individual therapy is once/week for several weeks and can then be extended to bi-weekly or monthly depending on your progress. Some individuals prefer to continue weekly therapy for maintenance and support, while others chose to "check in" periodically or as needed. Although weekly therapy is ideal, we can be flexible in determining what works best for you.
Generalist Training
I have been trained as a generalist, which is similar to that of your family physician who is well-equipped to work with most people and their health needs. Common presenting concerns treated by a generalist include:
Depression
Anxiety
Eating and Body Image Concerns
Grief/Loss
Relationship Problems
Life Transitions
History of Unmet Needs in Childhood
Dissatisfaction with Current Life
Identity Questions
LGBTQ+ Support
Low Self-Worth
Substance Misuse
Trauma
Personal Growth
General Support and Feedback
Career Stress/Decisions
As a generalist, I have the privilege of meeting people from all walks and stages of life. I am particularly skilled at accepting clients where they are and understanding their needs. I develop a case conceptualization for each of my clients that guides my work and facilitates growth and change.

Areas of Specialization
Within my generalist training, I had a "Marriage and Family" cognate, which is similar to a major in college. Many of my graduate level courses were focused on relationships, personal development, and a variety of family dynamics and family constellations. My primary research study, or dissertation, was on relationship infidelity and forgiveness. Over the years I have spent thousands of hours working with individuals on concerns regarding all types of relationship concerns such as:
Individuals Not Where They Want to be in Life
Partners Questioning Their Relationship
Strained Relationships with Parents or Siblings
Adult Children of Emotionally Unavailable Parents
Difficulty Knowing or Setting Boundaries
People-Pleasing in Relationships
Feeling Lost in a Relationship/Lack of Individual Identity
Relationship Dissatisfaction Following a Major Life Event
Difficulty Establishing or Maintaining Relationships
Loss of Relationship to Death or Breakups
Individuals Impacted by Extra-Relational Affair
Inherently, relationship work always involves identity work - who are we as an individual impacts who we are in relationships with friends, family, partners, colleagues, etc. My training in marriage and family also emphasized the importance of systems and the impact our environment has on our lives.
